Clothing and Costume Swap

Clothing and Costume Swap

Yeah Halloween! This year, instead of heading out to buy a brand new costume, think about reusing what you already have or attending our first CLOTHING & COSTUME SWAP!

Join us Tuesday October 22 from 6 to 8 PM at The Zero Shop.

Bring your costumes for swapping as well as other clothing items you’re ready to declutter from your closets!

Why are we hosting a clothing swap?

We believe in using what we already have before we go out and buy something new. The fast fashion industry generates massive amounts of waste while exploiting the rights of workers all over the world. From the raw materials, labor, shipping, and ultimate disposal of each article of clothing that crosses our paths a large toll is placed on our planet. In fact, second to oil, the clothing and textile industry is the largest polluter in the world.

Here at The Zero Shop we believe in living sustainably, which includes considering the clothes we choose to buy and wear! That’s why we can’t wait to get swappin’ with our community members and keep the clothes we have in circulation for as long as possible. Let’s give some “old” clothing a new life and take a stand against fast fashion!

What to bring:

  1. Please bring gently-used items. No tears, stains, or pilling.  (We recommend you donate or repair those worn-out items)

  2.  Swaps can include:  Halloween costumes, and any clothing items from tops and bottoms to jewelry, purses, shoes, and other miscellaneous accessories.

  3. Don't forget your reusable bag(s) to take home swapped items!

How it works

  1. All ages, sizes, styles, and genders are invited to attend

  2. RSVP here or by clicking the button below!

  3. The swap starts at 6:30 sharp! Arrive at 6pm to help us organize your clothing items into categories!

  4. We will donate any clothing not chosen by the end of the night- have ideas on where we should donate?

This is a great way to declutter your closets, SWAP and take home your favorites for FREE!

*Light desserts and beverages served

* Please remember to bring clothes promptly at 6 PM so we have the time to set up the clothing racks before the swap begins.

Check out Local Artist: Rae Taylor-Burns!

Check out Local Artist: Rae Taylor-Burns!

We are super excited to welcome Rae to the shop for the month of September!

Rae Taylor-Burns is an artist and scientist. She is a PhD student at UCSC, and she works at the US Geological Survey studying climate change. Her inspiration comes from the ocean and the great outdoors. When not painting or drawing (or at work on the computer), she can be found in the clay studio, surfing her home break in Capitola, or in her garden.

All paintings are framed in reclaimed and salvaged frames and glass, brought back to life with a sander, elbow grease, and a lot of windex. All mats are from the leftover bin at Lenz Arts in Santa Cruz and resized to fit each painting. The result is a piece of local art for your home, framed in 100% someone else's leftovers.

You can follow Rae on Instagram @rae_paints to see more of her works.
